Ars Poetica for our time

Poem complete, today
I wrap metaphors

in silver foil, verbs
in white fire adjectives

in blue mist, leave them
beneath an oak.

Tomorrow I unfold
and shape a new poem,
which I wrap in silk
and down of thistle. Beauty

must be protected
in times of drought.

Don Cellini is a poet, translator and photographer. He divides his time between Toledo and Savannah, Georgia.
